This was the harsh reality for a sweet pup cruelly abandoned by being thrown out of a moving truck into a landfill.
A Heartbreaking Beginning
The little dog, confused and terrified, tried desperately to chase after the truck that discarded her, but her weak body couldn’t keep up. Exhausted, she collapsed on the roadside. Though she tried to crawl, her swollen belly and frail state rendered her efforts futile.
Fortunately, rescuers spotted her struggling and rushed to help. At first, they assumed her distended belly meant she was pregnant, but the truth was far more alarming.
A Shocking Discovery
At the vet, the team discovered her belly was filled with fluid due to liver failure, not pregnancy. This tiny pup was malnourished to the point where her ribs and spine were visible, creating a stark contrast to her balloon-like stomach.
Adding to her suffering, she had an infected open wound on her leg, making it impossible for her to walk.
A New Beginning
The rescuers provided the starving pup with much-needed food and care. She was prepped for a stomach-draining procedure, during which over a gallon of fluid was removed. This was just the start of her journey to recovery.
With her condition stabilized, the focus shifted to addressing her liver failure through medication and constant observation. After a month and a half of intensive care, she was finally strong enough to leave the vet clinic.
A Forever Home
During her stay at the clinic, the rescuer who cared for her most grew deeply attached to the brave little pup. Naming her Azalea, they decided to adopt her, giving her the loving home she had always deserved.
Azalea joined a family with other dogs who showed her the joys of play and companionship. Two weeks later, a follow-up vet visit revealed remarkable progress—her liver was improving, and her spirit was brighter than ever.
Now a happy, energetic dog, Azalea showers everyone she meets with affection, her dark past fading further with every tail wag and puppy kiss.
